Christian Chinese Christmas Books for Kids

Chinese Christmas books are great tools for taking your children deeper into the significance of Christmas. Although there are more and more Christmas storybooks being published or translated into Mandarin, not many are Christian and focus on the story of Christ’s birth.

During our recent trip to Taiwan, I was able to visit a Christian book fair and found more Christian Christmas storybooks to add to our library.

As a parent, reading these books to my daughter helps me not lose touch with what’s really important in midst of the holiday busyness.

Below are five Christian Chinese Christmas books for kids that I’ve found to be Christ centered and perfect for Christmas. They’re suitable for toddlers, preschoolers and younger grade schoolers.

I wasn’t able to find many of the following books in simplified, sad to say. I hope more will be available soon.

Below I share purchase information and also some snap shots of the insides of these Christmas books.

磁貼遊戲冊-耶穌出生的故事: Magnet Christmas book

This is a fun interactive Chinese Christmas book where kids can participate in the story of Jesus’ birth. My daughter tends to like books where she can get “involved” in the story.

This is the only book that’s available in simplified as well.

小老鼠的聖誕節/Itsy Bitsy Christmas: You’re Never Too Little for His Love

Chinese Christmas books

This Chinese Christmas book by popular Christian author Max Lucado is a great one to add to your Christmas storybook collection. As a matter of fact, I love ALL his children’s books. If you’re looking for a Chinese Christian storybook collection to invest in, I highly recommend his!

This specific story is told through two little mice who hear about a king coming into their little town. Through their search for the king, they discover how Jesus came for everyone, no matter how small and insignificant they may feel.

平安夜(睡夢鄉series)/Silent Night

Chinese Christmas books

This simple nativity story is a part of a Bible storybook series published by ORTV, a Christian publishing company in Taiwan. It can be purchased individually.

This hardcover storybook comes with an audio CD. The very end of the book also has song sheets with lyrics of four songs to go along with the story. It also includes instructions for a role play activity. I like how the text is large, easy to read and comes with zhuyin.

安妮的聖誕節/Annie’s Christmas

Chinese Christmas books

This book tells the real life story of Annie Skau Berntsen, a Norwegian missionary to China and Hong Kong. The story takes you through Annie’s long journey home for Christmas from China after World War II.

I love this story of a young woman who wanted to serve God and gave her life to sharing The Gospel in China and later on in Hong Kong. I believe that exposing children to inspiring stories of real people who were simply willing to go on adventures with Jesus, be obedient to His commands sets a wonderful example for young hearts.

The same publishing company (宇宙光) has published many storybooks on the lives of missionaries to China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. At the end of these books, are English translations of the story and also a brief history on the missionary with real pictures. Be sure to check them out! These are great for building a Christian Chinese library.

星光共舞的晚上/A Night the Stars Danced for Joy

Chinese Christmas books

This is the story of the Nativity told through the perspective of a shepherd family. Disillusioned by life, they witness an Angel that tells them of Jesus’ birth and invites them to visit him. Through the process, they are overwhelmed by God’s glory and the similarities between Jesus’ simple family and theirs.

Although this story uses more complicated language (I had to look up quite a few words myself and write down the zhuyin), it really helps the reader consider how humbly Jesus came into the world. It’s a great way to draw families into the story of Jesus’ birth and God’s passion to redeem His children.
