Art study is a wonderful way to cultivate an appreciation for beauty in the world, not to mention a window into culture and history.
I like to incorporate it in our Mandarin Chinese bilingual homeschool on some Friday mornings to end the week with something fun and hands on for my kids.
It also serves as a break for me to do something more low-key every few weeks.
Since it can be challenging finding resources to support art study in Mandarin Chinese, I wanted to share what we use to help other bilingual homeschooling families.

Art Study Chinese Books
Below are some wonderful Chinese books for art study we’ve used in our bilingual homeschool.
I love this book on art history because it covers art chronologically in a story format making it engaging for elementary aged kids.
One of my main goals in our homeschooling is to give my children a global perspective.
This is why I try to choose materials that touch on a wide variety of cultures and countries and this book really helped me do just that.
Art is a wonderful way to open children’s eyes to the way different people groups see the world and their unique interpretation of it through their work.

I also appreciate the fact that this books covers wide array of artists because I want the limit the amount of books I buy to cover this subject since I will mainly teaching it in English.
Special thanks to Gina of Oaxacaborn who recommended this book to me.
Another book I would like to add to our homeschool library is these two books: Draw Paint Print Like the Great Artists and Let’s Make Some Great Art.
I love the layout of the book how it introduces famous artists then invites kids to create a piece of art in that artist’s unique style.
Art Study Mandarin Chinese Videos
I love incorporating some videos during our art study.
Sometimes finding the words to talk about art in Mandarin Chinese can be challenging for me.
Adding these additional resources have been helpful in filling in the gaps.
小白老師學藝術
Engaging educational videos that introduce famous artists, explore their unique styles, and share the stories behind their lives and work—perfect for inspiring creativity and art appreciation in kids. We really enjoy this channel.
高市樂齡耆妙頻道
An art tutorial channel with great instructional videos focusing on certain artist’s styles. The channel is intended for senior citizens.
說哈設計 Show Hand Design
A fantastic channel that explores major artists and their work. While the vocabulary is more advanced, it’s a great resource for families with higher fluency.
