Chinese Prime videos are definitely slim compared to the plethora that’s available on Netflix. But for parents who already have an Amazon Prime account, here are a some worthy of checking out.
When I first wrote this post, there were only three shows available. Now there are a lot more including American Girl and When You Give a Mouse a Cookie series! (Thanks Aime of Trilingual Texpats for sharing on her IG so I knew!) You can expect more to be added!
Prime Videos has the great additional option of allowing viewers to choose between China accent or Taiwan accent (中文（中国 China）, 中文（台灣 Taiwan)) for the audio which is NOT an option on Netflix. You have to try each show on Netflix in order to find which one has which audio.
The shows also come in additional languages such as Korean, Japanese, Hindi and Arabic…just to name a few.
For the Cantonese speakers out there, sorry, the shows are not available in Cantonese. Here’s great list of Cantonese shows for kids from my friend’s blog, Cantonese for Families.

How to Find Chinese Amazon Videos
Unfortunately Amazon doesn’t allow you to easily find these shows through their search options for some odd reason.
They do allow you to search by choosing the language of the audio you prefer, but it doesn’t pull up the shows I have listed below which is a bit frustrating.
Hopefully they update this soon.
Subtitles for the Chinese shows on Prime Video
Similar to Netflix, the subtitles are a slightly off which is a bummer.
Cartoons in Taiwan have subtitles which helps children reinforce or pick up Chinese characters.
Chinese Amazon Prime Videos for Kids
I personally prefer shows on Amazon Prime. They tend to be more educational and child friendly from my perspective.
I love how many of them are based off of popular English childrens’ books.

If You Give a Mouse a Cookie
This animated series based on the popular children’s book is now available in Mandarin! Whoohoo!
My daughter’s preschool read this in school last fall and it was fun to read the book and watch the show in Mandarin!

Pete the Cat
Pete the Cat is another tv adaptation of a popular children’s book series of a quiet and shy cat trying to understand the world around him.
The show has fun musical interludes as Pete processes new experiences with his friends and family.

- Chinese level: intermediate
- Length of Each Episode: 22 minutes
Tumble Leaf
A blue fox named Fig takes kids along his adventures learning simple science concepts with his friends.

- Length of Each Episode: 22-24 minutes
The Stinky and Dirty Show
Two best friends, a garbage truck and a backhoe go around town solving problems. This is also TV adaptation of a children’s book series.

An American Girl Story Series
I loved reading American girl books growing up. Did you?
Amazon has three American girl shows like the one below about Ivy learning to embrace her identity as a Chinese American girl.

- Length of Each Episode: 43-45 minutes
Creative Galaxy
Arty and Epiphany travels around the galaxy solving problems using art. The show introduces children to various art techniques.
Basic Info Breakdown
- Age: 4+ (preschooler)
- Chinese level: intermediate
- Length of Each Episode: 28 or 29 minutes
Jessy & Nessy
This new and adorable show teaches preschoolers the importance of friendship.
Basic Info Breakdown
- Age: 3+
- Chinese level: intermediate, they do speak slower in this show
- Length of Each Episode: 22 minutes
Wishenpoof
A show for your fairy and magic loving child.
Basic Info Breakdown
- Age: 3+
- Chinese level: intermediate
- Length of Each Episode: 23 minutes
Miaomiao’s Chinese for Kids & Miao Miao
This show is basically the Mandarin Chinese version of Dora the Explorer. Toddler and preschooler Chinese learners can pick up a few Chinese words from each episode.
There are two shows in this series. One is Miaomiao’s Chinese for Kids which is two minutes long. The other is Miao Miao, which is seven minutes long.
These episodes along with longer episodes are also available on their YouTube channel and their app that’s available in the iTunes app store.

Tales From Journey to the West
This is the cartoon version of a popular Chinese legend, the Monkey King. Each episode is eleven minutes long.

Go Go Giwas
This is a quality award winning Taiwanese cartoon with children from an aboriginal tribe as the main characters. The content focuses on teaching kids science and indigenous culture.

Glad to hear it’s helpful :). I don’t have a list for Disney Plus currently because they don’t offer Mandarin yet. I know there’s Disney Plus available in Taiwan so maybe try using VPN?
For Disney+, you just need to change your default language for a given profile to Chinese, and all shows that are available in Chinese will play in Chinese. There is actually quite a bit that is available, including some old ones that I was surprised they took the time to dub.
