Chinese Christian songs are a great way to teach little ones about Jesus and learn Chinese at the same time.

I have heard of several stories of how simple Christian songs and verses learned during childhood became sources of great encouragement when trials came in the later years.

Many of these simple children’s songs are packed with simple yet powerful truths of God’s nature. Learning these songs with your kids in Chinese is not only a wonderful way to pick up some Chinese Christian terminology but also a great way to root children’s hearts in the truths of Christ.

I have such fond memories of seeing the little kids at the Chinese church I used to attend sing “Jesus Loves Me” and “I Have Decided.”

Just a side note: the challenge with lyrics for Chinese Christian songs is that many churches create their own translations. Some songs like “Jesus Loves Me” have slight variations depending on the recording. I tried my best to find ones that stays true to the original English version.

💾 save these top 3 places to buy children’s books in Taiwan

📚There are lots of bookstores to choose from but where to get the best selection and deals? I’ve got you! Here are my top 3 favorite spots I hit up when we’re in Taiwan.

📍 @eslite_spectrum 誠品松菸
Not only is their children’s section stocked with the latest and best children’s books but there are also fun activities you can book for your kids here like slime, air dry clay and glass blowing. The area is also fun to walk around. There’s a large pond, old tobacco factory converted to cute boutiques and event spaces. On the weekend, local artisans sell their crafts. Plus, lots of restaurants to choose from within walking distance around the Taipei Dome area (above ground and underground).

📍 @mollie_sd Mollie’s Used Bookstore 茉莉二手書店
It’s a great place to browse through used books. They have a large children’s section to choose from. The store can ship your purchases to your hotel or airbnb so you don’t have to lug it back with you. It only cost me $6 USD to ship it to my mom’s place. They also have special deals off and on.

The area is also fun to walk around. Across the street is the famous National Taiwan University so lots of fun shops and eateries nearby catering to university students.

Mollie has 2 locations in Taipei and one in Taichung.

📍 @bookstw 博客來 is Taiwan’s version of Amazon. There’s a large selection online that can be shipped right to your door (even if you’re overseas).

💡I save all the titles I’m considering buying to save me time trying to decide what to buy during our trip. Then just buy it all at once when we’re in Taiwan and have it shipped to where we’re staying.
Their site has the best deals plus they periodically give out coupons and have special offers. I placed my order on 11/11 this time around.

📰 Good news is it’s NOT TOO LATE to turn that around. Here are 2 doable tips to help you do just that right away 🏃🏻‍♀️

1️⃣ FIRST ask yourself what your kids are still willing to do/enjoying in Mandarin Chinese? Is it a show, an activity or a book they want you to read over and over? Celebrate that and stick with it! It’s ok if they don’t want to move onto that new book series another mom suggested. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

2️⃣ NEXT Work Chinese back into your family routines in a minimal & doable way. Example: aim for 10 min of Chinese a day whether that’s sticking to speaking Mandarin at bath time or adding a Chinese book before bedtime. The KEY is choose something that you can commit to and be consistent in because consistency is key 🔑!!

🔮I’ve been wanting to try this activity for years but this is the first time we got around to it. Fun activities and experiences like these make language learning so much more fun and meaningful for kids. If you’re helping your child learn Chinese, and wanting them to have more of an active interest in learning, be sure to make time for experiences like these and not only schedule classes and language camps during your time in Taiwan.

🔮 My daughter (9YO) had so much fun blowing glass and designing her cup. The instructors were patient and great at teaching her how to do every step. The class took nearly an hour. Finished pieces need time to cool off. You can pick up your piece the following day or have them ship to where you’re staying or even overseas if needed.

🔮 DETAILS: @kuns_crystal is located in Songyan Eslite. Kids ages 6 and up can participate (6-10YO need to be accompanied by a parent). Glass blowing options start at 1000NT ($30USD). They also offer glass painting classes for younger kids 4+ and these go from 600-1200NT (require parental supervision).
